6/1 Tedtalk

Tedtalk linked  here Script attached below:      This  is an apple I drew. This (next slide) is a much better apple that someone else drew. I’m sure you can tell which apple’s artist had more talent in their field. Clearly, the person who drew this other apple has a much better idea of what they’re doing. However, I think that’s alright. I don’t need to be better than anyone else. I don’t need to be the best in the world. I only need to create something that I can appreciate and be proud of.                                   I created several things throughout the course of this project I found myself proud of. I found my end goal to be to draw an at least decent-looking human face. The first step in this process was learning how to at least create a basic outline of the human face. (next slide) I learned how...

5/21 Blog #8 Grids Bad

Image
Remember last week? I remember last week. I said that any readers of the blog could send in pictures of their face and I’d draw their face as best I could. Well turns out, “as best I could” was pretty awful. I tried drawing Ethan but I couldn’t seem to get it to look any good. I’ve gotten so used to my grid of lines for telling me where all features go, that I find this to be rather difficult. A generic grid doesn’t work all the time, since different people have different facial proportions. There is a way to work around this and adjust the grid for variances in proportions, but I honestly found this way too difficult.                                                                                         H...

5/14 Blog #7 Minor Improvements (A Fun Challenge for Next Week?)

Well, it seems that the progress I’ve made has its drawbacks. Though I still have much to learn and improve with when it comes to drawing, there is a strange sort of predicament I am now dealing with. I’d say that my skill level started with being the equivalent of a two-year-old trying to write its best piece of fiction. It’s awful and incomprehensible but you know the kid’s trying their best so you just kinda smile and nod. And as of right now, I think I’m actually pretty decent at drawing. I’ve learned a lot of basics and even some more advanced techniques. This does mean, though, that the progress I am making now has gone beyond basic level and is much slower. It’s easier to go from being garbage to being decent than it is to go just a step above decent since the progress to be made becomes much more refined.      So, when it comes to making small improvements in minor details of drawing, I decided that I could continue by keeping my promise to m...

5/7 Blog #6 More Details

Image
This week of work has resulted in what I believe to be the most progress I have made within a single week, in addition to the best final product I have created. I returned to my most trusted source, Dan Beardshaw.  This  is the video from Beardshaw I watched to help me out this week.      This video focuses on a similar premise to the one I have been attempting so far, which is creating an outline and constructing the face’s features. However, this method of outlining (though very similar to my old method), is a tiny bit different. This method involves creating a rectangular grid rather than a circular outline to identify where all facial features belong. The differences in the outline pretty much end there. The main differences in the features I drew here are simply that they are a lot more detailed. The eyes are fully drawn with pupils and whatnot. The hairline is drawn with a different style, though the level of detail remains the same s...
