4/30 Blog #5 For Real This Time

Image
Hey everyone, I hope this post finds you in a good spot. For the past week or two, I’ve been practicing the methods for outlining a human face’s basic construction. I’ve gotten to a point where I can safely say that I am confident with my ability to outline a human face from a front view and somewhat confident with my ability to do the same from a side view. Since I’m now pretty good at constructing the outlines, it’s about time to use this skill to actually draw a face. No rudimentary outline. A real drawing.      If you’ve seen my third blog post, you should be kind of familiar with the technicalities behind outlining a human face front view. However, there was a thing or two I left out of that post since they were more difficult details I wasn’t ready for yet. I didn’t mention drawing in the hair or actually transitioning the outline into a real drawing. The hair is drawn by creating a wavy line on the inside of the circle in the middle of the pap...

4/22 Blog #4 New Angles

Last week, I decided to take a head-on approach and get right into learning the basics of drawing the human face. I learned how to create an outline for where all facial features belong and how to use this outline to place said features in the correct spots. However, I feel that now it is important for me to get a decent grasp on more basics before I delve into more detail. By this, I mean that I plan on learning how to draw the human face from a side view, in addition to the front view I learned last week. Similarly to drawing a face from the front view, things get very technical. Once again, I utilized a video  from Dan Beardshaw to learn how to do this. This is the same video I learned to draw a front-view face from. Last week, I only watched the first portion of the video to gain a basic understanding of constructing facial features. Now, I am utilizing the remainder of the video to learn to outline basic facial features on a side view.     ...

4/15 Blog #3 A True Challenge

Image
Well, I decided it was time to face a new challenge in the world of drawing. Haha…I’m sorry. (I drew a face, guys). Well, I kinda did. Anyway, before I get to that, let’s talk about my thought process leading to this point. I figured that drawing a face would be my ultimate final goal that I would wait to accomplish for quite some time. But, with the better judgement that the past few weeks have bestowed upon me, I have decided that this was something I should attempt to tackle a bit earlier on. It’s a difficult task to draw a human face well for someone just starting with drawing, so I decided that it would be best to learn the absolute basics of drawing a face. Dan Beardshaw, a talented artist with a YouTube channel dedicated to giving advice on drawing, caught my attention last week. His videos seemed rather relaxing and very helpful so I turned to them again this week.               One particular  vide...

4/8 Blog #2 Baby Steps

Hey everyone! It’s been two weeks since I have officially set the goal for myself to improve at drawing. When I set that goal, it came with the resolve to start small. And so, I did. I had already decided to start by drawing perhaps the most basic of basic things; an apple. I found a  guide online on how to effectively draw an apple. Yes, the website is made for little kids. Don’t make fun of me, alright? I’m working with the skill set of a little kid so I need all the help I can get. I went by this guide and created a rudimentary sketch of an apple. I think it looks pretty alright, and I plan to come back to an apple later on to see if I can draw a better one.                                                                                 ...
